The County Council is responsible for all publicly-financed healthcare and public transport in Stockholm County. The County Council is also responsible for other overall issues within the county, such as regional planning and cultural subsidies.

Public transport in Stockholm County should be easily accessible, reliable and environmentally friendly. AB Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (Stockholm Public Transport, SL), Waxholmsbolaget and Färdtjänsten are responsible for transport services. The number of travellers rises each year.
Regional development
The Stockholm region is expected to grow in the next few years, and its population could grow by 250,000 over the coming decade. The County Council plays an important part in the region’s development, and a number of major projects and investments are currently being carried out.
