Stockholm County Council plays an important role in terms of research within the region, both through significant financial investment and through interdisciplinary research, which is carried out together with the universities within the county.
The County Council and research collaboration
Stockholm County Council is involved in a number of cases of research collaboration, including at Karolinska Institutet (KI), the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm University (SU) and Södertörn University (SH). At Stockholm's university hospital, Karolinska University Hospital in Solna and Huddinge, the County Council is responsible for care, while the state is responsible for medical education through Karolinska Institutet.
Stockholm Science City
Stockholm County Council is involved in cooperation relating to the Stockholm Science City Foundation (SSCi). The foundation has been tasked with attracting businesses and institutions to a geographic area that is currently home to Karolinska Institutet and the Royal Institute of Technology – and, in a few years' time, the New Karolinska University Hospital Solna.
Stockholm County Council has a medical technology development programme in the southern part of the county. The area includes Södertörn University and a number of bioengineering companies.
